What Every Digital Photo Needs.
In my opinion, every digital photo needs, as a
minimum, to be cropped and color corrected.
Why Crop?
a. Because the aspect ration of the digital camera chip is
different than the standard photo print sizes (i.e. 4x6).
Therefore, you, rather than the printer/software, should decide the area
to be printed. (See Waterfall image below)
b. Unless you are a pro you probably
didn't take the time to properly frame the shot and with a little
cropping you can turn an average shot into a good (maybe a great) shot.
c. You can get rid of something (or
someone) you didn't want in the photo. There are many bad photos that
can be turned into good pictures with a little careful cropping.
Why Color Correct?
Simple answer-Because the color is not correct! If it
was, PictoColor would not be in business. Our iCorrect technology in
iCorrect OneClick,
Portrait, or EditLab Photoshop plug-ins or
CorrectPhoto
with OneClick are simply the best shortcuts to making the color right.
Photoshop Elements or CorrectPhoto?
Like many of you I consider myself an
Advanced Amateur photographer and an Amateur
Elements user. So, for me the decision is based on what
the photo needs to be a good photo. If all it needs is to be cropped
and color corrected I select CorrectPhoto because it is so
quick and easy, particularly the OneClick color
correction. Here is an example of what I mean.
Annie Creek Falls, Spearfish Canyon, SD
Two weeks ago I went with my friend Bill to open his cabin in Spearfish
Canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The snow (and they had
a lot) was melting and the waterfalls in the canyon were "falling" fast. So, I
took a bunch of waterfall pictures and, you guessed it, everyone needed
to be cropped and color corrected just like the photo below. I
opened the
photo in CorrectPhoto, cropped to 4x6 format and
fixed the color by clicking on the white water. Total Elapsed Time: 16 Seconds. I
added the title with ImageTitler and that added a
little more time, but a lot less than trying to figure out how to add a
title in Elements, at least for me.

BTW, I also used the CorrectPhoto Scaling Function to
scale the photos for this email. This is also faster than selecting the
Elements/Image Size/Image Size/Pixel Dimensions Tool.

Because it
is easier and faster to do what you need to do!

A True Story
While in Spearfish Canyon I installed CorrectPhoto
3.0 with ImageTitler on Bill's neighbor's computer as a
thank you for letting me use their
ATV. Kathy is the picture taker of the family and, like most of us, has
a lot of digital pictures on her computer that "she is going to do
something with someday". She knew most of the photos needed to be fixed
but was frustrated (frankly hated) the photo editor that came with her
digital camera and wasn't inclined to learn a complicated photo editor
like Elements.
"Hmmm", I said. "Let me show you an easier way". I launched
CorrectPhoto
and proceeded to show her how fast and easy it is to crop and color
correct and turn average picture into a lasting memory. When I opened a
photo of her mother holding Kathy's grandson in a rocking chair, cropped
it and click on the white sweater her mother was wearing her eyes went
wide with delight. "Wow, that was easy and I didn't realize the color
was wrong (it had a magenta cast). We turned an average photo into a
wonderful memory in a few seconds.
(See how easy it is to turn and average shot into a great
shot)
I pointed
out that the cropped image has the same high resolution as the
original because of CorrectPhoto's proprietary automatic resizing
algorithm. I also suggested she order prints from Sam's Club Online
Photo (http://www.samsphotoclub.com/)
and pick them up at the local Sam's Club and that she would be surprised
how sharp and brilliant they will be. Kathy is now "doing
something" with the photos
